No, I didn't really go to space. I'm absurdly under qualified. These are a batch of photos I took on my family holiday to Lanzarote in March. They were all (except a few shots) taken from inside of a coach on the way around Timanfaya National Park. The photo I've included first was taken elsewhere on the island. Don't ask me to remember the name of the lookout point, because I can't. Soz.

If you're not sure where on earth Lanzarote is it's one of the islands that make up the Canary Islands which are Spanish territory off the coast of Africa. The islands are of volcanic origin, so it makes their landscapes pretty damn cool. They may have a bit of a reputation for being tatty tourist hotspots, but they're home to so much more. The area of the park is the place where eruptions occurred in 1730-1736, forming 32 volcanoes, vast lava fields, and well, a great place to go and imagine the (actually rather beautiful) apocalypse.

There is just something so special about the molten black and ochre coloured landscape. It's so violent, dramatic, sweeping, and silent. Of course, you'll see I've rather changed the photos...

As they were taken through the windows of a coach (so much glare) I was never really happy with most of them. A handful were okay, but I thought they were perfect for a bit of manipulation and glitching. I've left a few of them at the end of in full colour so you can get an idea of the amazing lava and ochre colours. There are also so black and white edits.

While I was there (my second time, I'd been ten years before) I found the juxtaposition of the pleasant but crowded tourist centre and the vast alien landscape quite funny. So many people are like 'take a photo, take a photo this is awesome' - I include myself - that it's all a bit hard to take in. I never really felt like I was truly there and appreciating it properly if that makes sense.

I did put my camera down towards the end of the coach tour, and I did stand outside, on top of what was once an active and violent volcano for a few minutes. But it was still so difficult to take in something which is so rarely seen.
